HOUSE DOCTOR

MORWENNA BRETTselling a home?

Preparing and presenting a house or flat for sale demands particular skills. A sympathetic house doctor can help you through the trauma of selling your home because she has the training to look at your home as a buyer would - which involves a completely different attitude to space and possessions.

Making the essential changes to get a good price and a quick sale rarely involves huge expenditure - just professional advice on how to make the best impression, from someone who has spent a lifetime styling interiors for instant appeal.

stuck in a rut? or faced with a major life-change?

Career and relationship changes mean a reappraisal of your lifestyle and this is a good time to take stock of your environment and your belongings. Clearing the clutter from your home clears a lot of emotional baggage from your life. You will feel lighter and have more clarity. It's as good as a diet, and much, much quicker! The hand of a friendly house doctor can steer and support you through this process.

You can hear Morwenna as the BBC's house doctor on local radio around the UK.

how does a house doctor work?

We start with an open and relaxed discussion on what you want to achieve - looking at the problem areas and putting together a plan of action. This takes about half a day.

You will end this session with some written, achievable goals, and that may be enough. I will be on the end of the phone if you need prompts, reminders, or guidance.

Starting to de-clutter your life often needs moral support, so if you need some friendly hand-holding through the process (and many people do), then we can arrange for further sessions, during which we would expect to reach some very positive, practical goals together.

It will be worth it. Peace will descend and you will experience a lightness you have probably not felt for years.

If you are selling a house or flat, then I work more like a surveyor, making a site visit of a couple of hours and preparing a written report on what needs to be done. My recommendations will cover decluttering, colours, surfaces, and making the right first impression. I will also suggest where spending money might help - though presentation of what you already have is always far more important.
